What's under the plastic/rubber caps? It actually looks like a low pressure gas dispenser, LoL! Crazy looking rig!

Roddie,
How closely does the battery end match a typical "big boy" plug? Maybe you connect your typical glowplug ni-cad stick on the end.

Under the red rubber cap is basically what's shown in the instructions. A "notched-hook" that grabs the plugs' center electrode. When the plunger is released; the clips' outer housing completes the circuit.

Does the tapered one come off? I'm sorry, I am terrible ble about judging scale... that end won't take a standard glowplug clip/socket on an igniter, will it?
Oops, yeah, what Jim said...

That makes sense Jim... except this is a pretty old item. I guess it's possible that it was meant to work with one.
Looks like you're correct Jim.. and you too Boats/CT..
Here's what the "inside" looks like.. (under the red rubber cap)

At first I thought it was broken, too. After a closer look, Roddie is depressing the hollow pin inside the inner cylinder to expose the end of it. The "half moon" catches the glow head's knobbed center electrical conducting pin, when it is pulled inside the inner cylinder, locking it firmly.

I suspect the target buyer for Roddie's vintage 1/2A clip is the guy that has a big plane with the typical 1.2V glow plug ignitor. That is, not the guy with a power panel and glow clip.
He's the guy that will bring his big plane along and tote his 1/2A plane for a little bit of fun. In this way, he doesn't have to carry extra support stuff for his "puny toy."

must admit im half guilty of what Jim is getting at. lol. I use a hanger 9 mighty midget glow driver and my cox plug leads are converted to connect to the mighty midget glow driver. does my half A and my OS 15 and no power panels and stuff. simple, small, provides great current supply to plugs, 1800 mAh, and reasonably cheap. converted a couple of my cox plug clips/leads to this, so if one gets dodgey just plug the other in.
